Simon Cowell’s Fury At Royal Ascot
Simon Cowell was playing host to his celebrity friends this week after spending more than £20,000 on an executive box for the week at the Royal Ascot. He invited some of his showbiz friends along to the races which included his Britain’s Got Talent co-stars Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden, Lord Lloyd-Webb, Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli and his ex-girlfriend Sinitta.
But Simon was left furious as two familiar faces – Anthea Turner and her husband Grand Bovey dropped in unannounced. According to people at the races, the TV presenter Miss Turner and her husband had been hopping between the hospitality boxes located in the VIP enclosure when they decided to drop in at Simon Cowell’s suite on Ladies Day, one of the most popular days at Ascot.
Anthea and her husband claimed they were invited by another of Cowell’s guests, Jackie St Clair, but their host was apparently unimpressed and turned his back on the gatecrashers.
A source told a national tabloid: “Simon was furious that Anthea and Grant just turned up, they were definitely not on the list. It’s not Anthea so much, but Simon doesn’t have much time for Grant, and would never have invited him. He pretty much snubbed them for the time they were in the box and seemed desperate for the two of them to leave.“
“Anthea and Grant didn’t seem to get the message that they weren’t welcome. They were walking around completely oblivious to the fact that the host didn’t want them there.”
Dressed to impress, Anthea and Grant chatted with other guests, and even ventured onto the balcony with a glass of Pimm’s where Cowell pointedly turned his back on the pair. Another source said: “Simon was desperate for them to leave. It absolutely ruined his day. They outstayed their welcome so much, that Simon ended up leaving before them. He was not happy.“
Simon is understood to have a frosty relationship with Mr Bovey. Cowell’s agent is Peter Powell, who used to be married to Miss Turner. She left Powell in 1997 to be with Bovey.
Simon’s loyalty has always been to Peter Powell. He has seen Grant and Anthea at social events, but this was a small and very intimate do, and Grant and Anthea were not meant to be there. Although Anthea Turner’s relationship with her ex-husband is said to be amicable, the couple went through a difficult breakup.
Mr Cowell’s snub is the latest in a long string of mishaps for Anthea and Grant. Since her heyday on Blue Peter and as a breakfast TV presenter, she has repeatedly tried to reinvent her career, but she has yet to recapture her earlier success. The couple appeared on Hell’s Kitchen, in return for a six-figure fee, in an effort to relaunch their careers.
After Grant Bovey’s £100 million property business collapsed with £28 million debts earlier this year, the couple have had to sell their beautiful 57-acre home in Surrey, which netted them a £10 million.
Despite Simon’s thunderous mood over Anthea and Grant, he was all smiles earlier in the week after he won £20,000 on a horse.
What i don’t get about Simon Cowell is on-screen, he is portrayed as Mr Nasty, and will tell contestants exactly what he thinks of them, yet at the races, he couldn’t simply approach Anthea and Grant, and ask them to leave???
